And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
One of the most fantastic sails I've taken was at the helm of the 112' schooner Mauna Tea out of Keihi, along Makaha, making west to lay Waimea Bay, jibe to run into the bay to anchor. Under a half moon in 2 meter swells. Majestic and thrilling.
Not the most efficient point of sail. This week I braved the West River on the Chesapeake in the teeth of a 50 knot breeze. Great fun. Motoring a Pearson 31 to a refuge single handed. Thought the boat was emulating a porpoise.
doing a proper keelhaul

ReplyDeleteAs much sail as it will take without falling over!
ReplyDeleteThey were to windward. This is after the accidental jibe.

ReplyDeleteWhen we cleared Barbers Point, we jibed to ran rail down for 7 hours to the next jibe.
DeleteVelveeta's a rather cheesy name.
