I'd drive that...

  1. Another design from Raymond Loewy's studio. A pity that Studebaker was on it's last legs at the time, there was nothing else like it in 1962. I'd buy one of the later licence built ones with the Chevy V8.

  2. I never understood why they failed. Their designs were so ahead of others - very good looking cars, the Hawk especially.

    1. They failed because the Avanti was a day late and a dollar short.

  3. My dad put a 421 Pontiac engine ,3-2's , four speed in a Avanti back in the late 60's.

  4. I always thought that they were a pretty attractive car, but that the design was flawed - somehow not as fully integrated as it should have been. If you show a bunch of side-profile front and rear ends, there is nothing that would cause you to match these two together, not the way you would, naturally, for an E-type or a stingray.

  5. I’ve always thought the front end was hideous, just has zero appeal to me 🤷🏻‍♂️

  8. The trophy wife of the town doctor had a 66. Her son was my age and a friend. She drove the Avanti for 10 years until the Doctor put her in a 76 Mercedes 450 SL.

  10. You really like Studebakers, don't you? 8)

Is that one an AII or an original? Looks to me like an original in the wrong paint.
