And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Photo of a residential subdivision in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Guy with Alzheimers goes out to check the mail. Never seen again.
my daughter taught in Dubai for a couple of years not all that long ago - she never saw any green; it was all dry, brownish rocky dirt. I think there might have been a bit of photoshopping in this pic
Reminds me of some of those Chinese ghost cities, except the Chinese buildings are taller. You can bet the place ain't called "Levittown-East" however.
Interesting, there seems to be two variations of the design with the back sides being slightly different. Don't look bad for a place with no snow load though I'd prefer crenulations on those top wall and not being near any other house of course.
There's plenty of alcohol there. I was in the Persian Gulf twice - in 1988 on the USS Dubuque (LPD-8) homeported in Sasebo, Japan & in 1991 on USS Nimitz (CVN-68) homeported in Bremerton, WA. We went to Dubal 2 or 3 times each tour. All the hotels have bars. And plenty of locals utilizing them.
I could not live like that.
ReplyDeleteNobody can, because that doesn't qualify as living.

ReplyDeleteLooks like some housing developments on the west coast of Florida. However they do have green and canals and lots and lots of people
ReplyDeleteI wonder if that is a 5G tower. Center of photo at the bottom. Irish.
ReplyDeleteA Minaret. Tower for the call to prayer.
DeleteJohn, that looks absolutely NOTHING like a minaret.

ReplyDeleteAnonymous @ 0450: I was wondering if I was the only one reminded of that song.

Looks like the same house design as Eskan Elektrik Village in Saudi where I pulled a deployment back in the '90s.
ReplyDeleteThat’s exactly what I thought. I bunked at Eskan in 97/98.

ReplyDeleteGood thing there's no alcohol there, imagine finding your way home drunk.
