And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
The romantic period of art. Anybody who has worked in the hay fields even with modern balers, tractors and such chuckle at such a naive viewpoint.
Painting doesn't show the sweaty labor, sunburn, the hay bits getting under your clothing and chaffing you. Nor does it show the biting chiggers and flies.
But it is an attractive picture. Hopefully most of us will never get back to that form of physical labor.
