And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I've heard that only 10% get symptoms. Don't know if that's really true, but I've seen it several times, and I have indeed drunk fully from multiple mountain streams and lakes over the years. Once, I noticed that the lakewater in my plastic canteen had teeny little crustaceans in it, like micro-shrimp. Counted them, then drank, then counted again to see how many went down the hatch. Didn't get sick. Can't say what the crustaceans thought about it.
I live in the Tennessee Valley. We have been crystal clear water in the Great Great Smokey Mountains that runs over limestone. Probably safe to drink but I would still use a Lifestraw on a hike Fish shat in the water and so do the bears
My parents lived in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina for years. When I would stay with them for a while. I would drink some of the best tasting water I have ever enjoyed! The water came right out of the ground from the hill behind their house. Mom did prefer to boil the water first, but not me. For thirty years I was a licensed water treatment plant operator here in Florida.
Yep. Take drink ... Giardia will be in your future.
ReplyDeleteI’ve drank out of streams everywhere in Colorado that has Crystal Clearwater. Never once got sick.
ReplyDeleteSame here! Only once though; the only opportunity I had. It came from high on the mountains and cold, too. Thought it would be safe.

I live in Maryville and agree with you. Imagine all the "yankee tourons" peeing in the river, while swimming. NASTY!
