  6. Do notice, though not totally big picture, the gun isn't lashed to the hull, so if fired that gun would jump back with no resistance. And moving a few tons back in place won't be easy.

    1. Look at the big rope just to the right of the back end of the cannon at the bottom of the pic. Cannons were always lashed down so they didn't move when the ship rolled, hence the phrase 'loose cannon'.
      Interesting sights and I think that is a percussion cap lock attached to a lanyard.
