And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

My parents would have burnt this if I'd shown up with it.
Conan, his author Robert E. Howard and his other creations like Kull and Solomon Kane were staples of my childhood. I've even visited his grave in Texas.
I actually had a comic mag snatched out of my hand and burned once, when I was like seven, because - well just on principle. Cost me a dime. They were considered "of the devil."

DeleteHoward was not a particularly great writer. The best stories were the ones co-written by L. Sprague De Camp, with Howard and other authors.
