  3. The JSDF showed one at an armed forces day in Iwakuni back in the 1970s. They had covers for the leading edges of the wings. It looked positively tiny compared to our Phantoms.

  4. The first airplane model I ever assembled. As a 10 year old you could write manufacturers and they would send you pictures for good will.

    1. There was a film of an F104 setting a time to climb record. Clock would start when the wheels moved. Brakes/tires couldn't hold it when he throttled up. Sucked the gear up without gaining altitude, and didn't pull until it got close to the runway end. It was vertical by the time the pavement ended. As it got nearly out of sight, still accelerating, there was a sonic boom heard. This might have been an attempt to beat the English Electric Lightning record. Did a quick look on u-tube, but it didn't turn up.

  10. I lack the necessary knowledge to discuss the performance characteristics of fighter jets, but to me, the Starfighter was what a jet fighter should look like. Anybody remember when the heroes in the Blackhawk comics flew (what looked like) Starfighters?
