And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
The JSDF showed one at an armed forces day in Iwakuni back in the 1970s. They had covers for the leading edges of the wings. It looked positively tiny compared to our Phantoms.
I was fortunate enough probably 20 years ago now to have VIP seating guest of the Thunderbirds at an airshow in Scotia NY. and have a 104 basically d a tailstand right in front of us and proceed to go straight up until completely out of veiw. Awesome memorie.
There was a film of an F104 setting a time to climb record. Clock would start when the wheels moved. Brakes/tires couldn't hold it when he throttled up. Sucked the gear up without gaining altitude, and didn't pull until it got close to the runway end. It was vertical by the time the pavement ended. As it got nearly out of sight, still accelerating, there was a sonic boom heard. This might have been an attempt to beat the English Electric Lightning record. Did a quick look on u-tube, but it didn't turn up.
I lack the necessary knowledge to discuss the performance characteristics of fighter jets, but to me, the Starfighter was what a jet fighter should look like. Anybody remember when the heroes in the Blackhawk comics flew (what looked like) Starfighters?
Pointy end up!
