  2. Did you ever drive a 914? They were slot cars when set up right. Same setup.

  3. Looks like a VW turned around for mid engine. I don't recognize the body.

  4. It makes perfect sense in a race car where a perfect 50/50 weight distribution gives a critical advantage when cornering. When Ferry Porsche was designing what would become the 356 in Austria, he created a prototype with the engine rotated much like this one. It handled wonderfully because of it's perfect weight distribution but there was no rear seat so only one was ever built.
A VW transmission can be made to run in reverse by flipping the differential over inside the transmission. You wouldn't have to touch the camshaft or starter at all. The only thing you would need to design and build would be a longer shift mechanism.

  5. The very first Porche 356 had that layout. I would bet it's a species of Porche.

  8. Is it just me, or is the shaft coming out of the back of the trans connected to nothing?

  9. That's the shifter - easy to hook up in a Beetle, a little more need for u-joints when you flip the unit 180.
