And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Hah. I used to watch the porters at the airport empty the bin of luggage and cargo, by hand, leaning over the side of that thing. Hard work. The underslung cargo compartment was winched up against the hull of the Connie with 4 cables, one at each "corner" so to speak, the rubber seal on the edge kept "most" of the rain out. Dad's luggage was usually 20F to the touch and wet when delivered to us.
Connie bag pod.
ReplyDeleteSpeedPac, for luggage stowage on a Constellation... back when flying was an occasion.
ReplyDeleteMike in Canada
I flew on a Constellation and IT WAS an occasion. Take off with flames coming out of every engine from rich fuel mixture.
ReplyDeleteSpent time under Columbine II yesterday at the Air Force Museum - such a beautiful aircraft. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbine_II
