And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Very alluring. Either Maine or Nova Scotia. Many moons ago I decided that I'd go to Maine to learn boatbuilding. I forget why I didn't go. Probably the winters. I still sorta kinda regret not going. Reality is not a Rockwellesque painting.
Google thinks this might be Salt Spring Island, BC. But the fishing boats and buildings look more like the Northeast coast, somewhere from Mass. to Nova Scotia.
I guess to be more accurate, I was standing in the exact same spot. Only difference was the boat on the left is white in my photo and the boat on the right is yellow rather than white. Must be different years, but it's a well-known photo spot.

Read John McPhee's "Survival Of The Bark Canoe". Best Maine boatbuilding book ever. In fact, I recommend all of his work, own them all.

DeleteMaritimes, maybe? Doesn't look much like Maine.

ReplyDeleteFrench River - Prince Edwards Island. I've taken the exact same photo.

DeleteWhere ever it is, no dumb solar panels or wind turbines, so they got that going for them.
ReplyDelete46° N. latitude, snow from November to April, blizzards, and 11° F. temps aren't conducive to wind and solar arrays.
DeleteCalm and peaceful? I've lived in 5 states in both city and country and there was always some ahole who thought the world wanted to hear his music.
