Incompetence, all the way around.

President Joe Biden thanked Verizon and AT&T on Tuesday for delaying the launch of 5G around various airports across the country and working with the Department of Transportation.

In a press release Tuesday, Verizon blamed the federal government for the scaled-back deployment around airports. The Federal Aviation Administration and airlines “have not been able to fully resolve navigating 5G around airports, despite it being safe and fully operational in more than 40 other countries,” Verizon wrote. The company states that 5G will help more than 90 million Americans experience a faster and more reliable network.

AT&T also blamed the government for inaction on 5G in a statement. The company wrote: “We continue to work with the aviation industry and the FAA to provide further information about our 5G deployment, since they have not utilized the two years they’ve had to responsibly plan for this deployment.”

  1. Worked at the FAA for 30 years. Have you ever watched sausage being made? Never flew again during that time. Going to drive everywhere from now on.

  2. I graduated from high school back in 1967, and already then we had 5G ads on the TV 7*24. And still, 5G was a 'surprise' to the government.
THAT of course is not a real surprise.

    1. You might want to rethink what you wrote. Back in 1967, cell service didn't exist. Mobile phones were a radio transmitter in the trunk of the car and TV itself wasn't on 24/7.

  3. What's the worst that could happen?

    That's what will happen.

  4. Call me what you will...conspiracy theorist, vaxx denier, tinfoil hat wearer. I read that the FAA's concern was that the graphene oxide found in the covid nottavaxx is RF active to 5G transmissions. They are afraid that all the pilots who had to take the jab to keep their jobs could be affected by the 5G when coming in to land. No one wants a jetliner going down in a populated metropolis.
I'm gonna go put a fresh wrap or two on my tinfoil hat, the voices are starting to get through again.

  5. Fortunately, Verizon and at&t are full of shit. The same frequency issue doesn't exist in the EU because they run a different band plan and therefore the 5G band in the EU is farther from the radar altimeter freq.

    1. Also, base station emitted power levels are going to be much higher in the USA than in Europe, thus increasing breakthrough on adjacent channels (on old equipment with poorly-designed filters).

  6. How expensive would it have been to retrofit all the aircraft with newer equipment?

Or would that have been impossible given the chip shortage?

It's a real shit-show all the way around, and no fun watching western civ stagger into the 3rd world.
