And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Classified as a suicide but many, many questions remain. If you've seen the Coen Brothers movie 'Hail Caesar!' - which is 50's tale about Hollywood studios, the Red Scare, etc.; the main character is the studio fixer, Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin).
There really was a powerful studio fixer named Eddie Mannix, reputed to have Mob connections. He had an ex-showgirl wife. She had a boyfriend and semi-long term romance on the side - George Reeves. The guests at the party (when it happened) heard one gunshot. Three shots were fired from the gun though, and while they recovered the bullets, they never checked Reeve's hand for gunshot residue.
I love how we get to see the springboard at the end......

ReplyDeleteNo 'Fortress of Solitude' in Superman(1949-1958)

ReplyDeleteGeorge Reeves was the best Superman … and so danged handsome!

I loved George Reeves as Superman when I was a kid. Even the first comic books kept the spirit intended.
ReplyDeleteWhat passes now in this genre is ... beyond appalling.
