  3. For large, bulky items, trains are the most cost efficient means of transport over long distances. The biggest problems with the railroads, dating back to the 1800s, are related to government subsidies and graft between politicians and rail tycoons.

    1. When government contracts are awarded you can be nearly certain that someone along the way has sought an unethical or flat out illegal advantage in arriving at the outcome and someone was ready to facilitate it.
