As long as it's ok to yell, "Heee-Ya!"

  1. Did 12 years as a Krav practitioner. Miss the training and the folks I trained with for years or only a class or two. But the lessons stuck with me, even these years later. Darren was a direct disciple of the founder, Imi Lichtenfeld, and carries the training forward with his own spin.

  2. Any fighting technique that makes your opponent punch himself hard in the face with his own fist is pretty powerful. Body and mind stuff..... I am in.

  4. Put the finest Krav Maga guy---or Bruce Lee wannabe or Karate Kid type---in a room with a 75 year old grandmother with a .38. Say "Go!" Who wins? You can be the toughest mofo around, but you ain't tougher than my Smith & Wesson.

    1. True, but people don't always have their guns handy. Hands, feet, and fists are always available.

Better to have both options available of course:-).

    2. I write and speak and act like what I am: an Oklahoma boy. As such I am always armed. I am 68 and in excellent shape, but could never physically defeat a group of joggers. Thus my pals Smith, Wesson and Ruger. I do not go in those parts of the US where I cannot be armed---California, New York for examples. I do not go in those parts of anywhere where there might be trouble---bars, sketchy parts of anywhere and so on. But I certainly understand that for those who live in Blue States, something like Krav Maga is a must and better than nothing.

    3. Learn how to pistol whip someone with it cause unlike TV at some point that thing runs our of bullets and when things get real and you get tunnel vision and the target won't stop moving you may have a different opinion. Why do you think cops shoot 60 rounds and don't hit shit. Nice to have a backup plan, unless you got a bayonet on that pistol.

  5. Mike, I live a few hours north of you. Mid-50s. I have trained jiujitsu for a number of years and still do. Good exercise but jiujitsu is not a good option if there are more than one attacker. I am commonly armed with an old Gen2 Glock 17.
Those with the guns, make the rules.

  6. A good martial arts background may give you a chance to create the distance you need to get to or even draw your weapon I a surprise attack which is what most all are especially if you are oblivious to your surroundings as most are thanks to the smart phone

  7. Ned:
Most cops these days can't hit their target because they don't have much training due to the cost and time for the dept. Most of them didn't shoot as kids. (they don't hire those types anyways) If asked, cops will tell you they don't train on their own dime, only when the dept pays for it. BTW, the hit average for cops nationwide is 15%. That is a hit ANYWHERE on what they aimed at, whether dog, cow, bad guy, good guy, or themselves (yeah, suicide counts). The best dept in the nation is CHP, at 25%.
By the 90's, the blue cities had begun to block hiring of anyone who had a gun background. Those who take up shooting as an adult are normally at a disadvantage compared to those who learned as a kid. The kids get hardwired for shooting ability to some extent, but the late learners have to practice on a regular basis to keep their competency at a useful level. Most cops don't bother, and it shows.
