  2. Visited Tabascos home base at Avery Island ,La. Civil war prison camp. Thousands of Union solder's died working the salt mines.

  3. I much prefer the Crystal or Louisiana brand hot sauces, myself, and see more of those in restaurants in Acadiana than McIlhenny's. Your mileage may vary.

  4. There was time when most – if not all – U.S. Marine Corps mess halls featured McIlhenny hot sauce as prominently as salt & pepper.
    Walter S. McIlhenny served as a Marine on active-reserve service from 1935-1959. He was twice decorated for gallantry on Guadalcanal in 1942. Among competitive shooting awards, he was recognized as a Distinguished Marksman. A "dinger".
    Advancing his grandfather’s recipe for hot pepper sauce, McIlhenny advanced McIlhenny Company from Avery Island, Louisiana to international prominence.
