Used Hard

  1. Or newly made- just like cars and bikes, the "relic" look is apparently in demand for guitars. They can be had in various stages of decrepitude.

  2. With the Custom Shop, you never know nowadays. That fretboard looks pretty pristine.

  3. Agreed - look at the jack and trem hardware. Nary a scratch to match the paint. Screws are pristine. Reliced.

    1. I always read that as 're-liced' instead of 'relic-ed'.

  4. Looks similar to an axe from the cover of a Rory Gallagher album.
About 25 years ago, I met a guy who worked at the Fender Custom Shop. We were killing time at McCarron airport. By what he said, they make a ton of relic versions and he wasn’t sure why they were so in demand then, but it put food on his table and shoes on his kids’ feet.

  5. I have 3 guitars that have been played HARD for 30+ years and none of them are anywhere near that damaged. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to find anything wrong with any of them. I believe what you see on the strat was intentional.

    Used, not so much.

  7. Turns out that is Fender's "Mike McCready" model, a guitarist for Pearl Jam. No, I never heard of him before, and I never particularly cared for PJ. See more here: https://www.fender.com/en-US/electric-guitars/stratocaster/mike-mccready-stratocaster/0145310700.html

    Note the knob placement.
