And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
My fav plane for almost 60 years....and the XB-70 is a close 2nd. Still hard to wrap your head around the fact that they were faster than a 30-06 bullet. They also filled a mission role that is sorely missed. Satellites are nice, but the mission this thing performed can NOT be duplicated....I hope McNamara has his own special place in Hell for scrapping the tools and dies for it....s.o.b.
You are right. The mission this things performed can not be duplicated. Today we have better tools that gather better intelligence for a fraction of the cost without having to put lives in danger. These sure were great tools, amazing feats of engineering, the men who operated them were braver than I'll ever be. But these tools are now obsolete.
These two men set the official world's speed record of 2,193 mph in 1976,
ReplyDeleteflying out of Beale AFB in Nothern California.

Balls of titanium, like the SR-71 they flew.
ReplyDeleteI’m not a pilot, nor am I an aviation expert or gearhead…….but that is one damned sexy plane.
ReplyDeleteFind a military museum, see one up close.
ReplyDeleteThey'll never build another like it.
ReplyDeletenot necessary any more. We have satellites now
DeleteMore amazing, it was designed in the 1950s. . . on a slide rule. Damn we were good!
ReplyDeleteWhat's this we shit, Tonto?
DeleteLeaked fuel like a sieve when on the ground - worked with a guy who maintained these when in the USAF.
ReplyDeleteThey were suppose to, designed that way.
