  9. Mechanics leave tools in/on customer vehicles all the time. Time is money, so they tend to move too fast.

    I was doing a test drive for another novice mechanic when the brakes failed. Discovered he left an angled wrench on a brake bleeder, and suspension movement pushed it open. Early Chevy Corvair, back when cars had single chamber master cylinders. Open bleeder equals no brakes.
