And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I kind of question the authenticity of this for several reasons:
1. Connery hadn't been -the- James Bond for at least 15 years but actually more.
Sean Connery – 1962 - 1967, 1971, 1983 David Niven – 1967 George Lazenby – 1969 Roger Moore – 1973 - 1985 Timothy Dalton – 1987 - 1989 Pierce Brosnan – 1995 - 2002 Daniel Craig – 2006 - 2021
2. Word processors were common in 1998, although I concede Connery's secretary -might-have still been using a typewriter.
3. There is no zip code included in the address. Zip codes had been around since the 1960's and it was standard practice to include them in addresses.
4. Although Connery generally didn't do adverts in the UK or US, he had nothing against doing technology adverts if the price was right. Here's a Japanese Mitsubishi Color Tv and printer advert.

Priceless!
ReplyDeleteHe did however, appear in a couple of Japanese whiskey commercials
ReplyDeleteKind of dickish…
ReplyDelete"How do you like that Trebeck?"
ReplyDeleteHahahahaha! Mademy day!

Connery was THE James Bond every minute until the day he died.
DeleteProbably will be for the next 100 years, too.
But bonus points and props for including David Niven in your list; most people forget that one, or never knew it.
Mr Cinema Know It All and generally THE fucking all around know it all missed Woody Allen's send up from the late 60s.
DeleteAnd Craig was the best Bond...in less you believe government assassins are well versed in snark., than I guess Sean was your guy.
He is James Bond, he doesn't need no stinking zip code!
ReplyDeleteIt's not like he needed the money or anything.
