    1. Elkhounds were bred to hunt moose, which are called "elk" in Norway.

    2. If (as I've been led to believe) the plural of moose is mice/meese, then the dog is definitely a keeshund or Dutch Barge Dog, which was bred to dispatch rodents on the barges that ran the canal system in Holland
      heh!

  3. That is a North American or Alaskan Moose hound. They are specially trained to go find a moose and bring it back to the camp so you can shoot it there...

  6. Big game hunters seem to have little or no regard for their safety.

  7. The dog is a Norwegian Elkhound. Wonderful pups! Incredibly friendly, long lived and love to hunt deer/elk/moose. By barking at them :) The entire clip is available on youtube. They were moose hunting. I currently have a female Elkhound, she's 14 1/2 and still going!

  8. These Norwegian Elkhounds sound like fantastic dogs - however I'd like to know if they know not to bring a bear back - though I guess if you're ready for Bullwinkle, you'd just take Yogi in stride.

  9. He's lucky it didn't stomp him to paste. They aren't afraid of me or my dogs.
