  2. Shame they couldn't keep the cockpit where it originally was located. I think the bent wing structure intruded after the redesign, so they stuck the central fuel tank there instead.

  3. Needed the bent wings to allow ground clearance for that massive prop, without making the landing gear too tall. Hard to put fuel tanks in bent and hinged wings. (Hinged upward so the plane took up less space when parked on the carrier.) That's why the fuel is between the cockpit and the engine.
