And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Lee Van Cleef and I had lunch together back around 1984 on a movie set in the Philippines. It was a sort of Raiders of the Lost Ark film called "Jungle Raiders" and sometimes "Captain Yankee." I played a pilot taking off in a hail of flying spears because a guy in a pith helmet had just stolen the tribe's sacred god statue and we stuffed him and the statue into the back. I even had a couple of commands I was screaming in the melee. Van Cleef was a totally cool and pleasant dude to hang out with... just the two of us having lunch and drinking that marvelous San Miguel.
I never really could figure who was supposed to be good, bad or ugly. They all did kinda fit the last two, though.
ReplyDeleteIt was in the titles / credits. Eastwood = Good; Van Cleef = Bad; Wallach = Ugly
