And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I taught US History in three nations; some of the classes were at the college level. I have read this book. Some of it went right into my lectures. An excellent read. Those today who denigrate Lee---who like every man had faults---hate the truth and hate America.
My Father, and my Father's Father, born and raised in the Tarheel state, fought in four wars for the United States said Lee was a great general but still a traitor to everything the Founding Fathers fought for. It's the Jim Crow south that rewrote history, and a false one at that. In the end we will win.
Vector, tht's funny, since the reason the South seceded was that they thought the Union had departed from Constitutional government, and they wanted to restore it in a nation of their own. Unfortunately, the tyrant Lincoln decided to be George III in this revolution.

ReplyDeleteIve read Guelzo's book on Gettysburg. Based on that reading this should be an excellent read.

ReplyDeleteLincoln destroyed the founder's republic. He did not preserve anything. You have already lost.
DeleteOnce again, you're full of shit, and establishing a pattern here. Troll.
