And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Steve McQueen did his own stunts. There was a full length movie made in the documentary style showcasing a trials compwtition. No surprise, McQueen tore up the track and finished on top.
No studio and no insurance company in their right mind would let a principal actor do their own stunts. If he was injured it would kill the movie. A stuntman can be replaced. A star can't. Mcqueen was not permitted to ride at all off set during filming of any movie.
They do try to give the impression to the rubes that actors do their own stunts, though.
It was not even a BMW. It was a Triumph disguised as BMW. Ekins had a big Triumph dealership and built all of McQueen personal bikes.
Had a friend who was Steve McQueen's roommate when they were in juvie together (Boys Republic). He said that once SM made it he'd send gather personal from every movie set and send them to Boys Republic for boys to have.
Stuntman Bud Ekins did do the famous jump of the barb wire barrier. Search the Internet and you can see for yourself. McQueen did do many of the motorcycle chase scenes and in fact at times was driving one of the pursuing German motorcycles, basically chasing himself as the scenes switched. Very talented actor and motorcycle / car driver IMO.
..when some actors were real men...!
ReplyDeleteMy father told me that's what the Swiss German border looked like ...

ReplyDeleteNone of todays so-called "actors" could hold a candle to Steve McQueen. THE END.
ReplyDeleteTHIS! A racer who just happened to act a little to finance his need for speed.
DeleteThe film 'On any Sunday', one of my favorites from years ago, shows McQueen riding like a boss. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_Any_Sunday
