And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
There are two horses in the background. If the man runs, or even turns away, the bear will probably go after them all. Getting to the horses, getting in the saddle, and getting both his horse and the pack horse in motion (assuming they both don't bolt at the first sign of the bear) will take much longer than is safe. The man has time to aim and eliminate the threat. Then he and his livestock will be safe.
would love to see a liberal in that picture, it would be funny to see them running down the hill in their rainbow t shirt and flip flops to their doom. always stand your ground in a situation like that and pick your shot. been there in my youth and done that with a Mt Lion in the top of a cottonwood tree over me and a next to a spring when i saw him. great basin area in the 70's

ReplyDeleteWinchester 1895. I'd just take my pack horse and let the bear have the sheep.
