And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Ditto! I lost my father in 2019. He had survived going ashore at Anzio and was married to my mother for 73 yrs. Never forget the generation that appears in these photos. Thank you CW, greatly appreciate seeing this.
My dad landed on D-day and was in Europe. Fought for Patton from inception of his command of the 3rd, until the end. Wife and I took him back in 2010, when he was 89 y.o. He passed in 2014. We visited the places he wanted to see again and even visited the town where he did occupation duty after the war ended.
Been reading a lot on D-Day recently, FiL landed that day as a Combat Engineer. Thos pictures is some days after, beach obstacles are cleared and using LSTs to shuttle supplies inland
More of these, please :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that someone is taking the time to make these.
ReplyDeleteI thought sea levels were rising and we were all gonna die……
ReplyDeleteThat's the first observation I came up with, too. We need more of these, please.

My father served in Italy, however unlike two of his brothers, refused to talk about the war. But he did talk about the Italian girls frequently.
