  1. My only quibble with these fiberglass handled splitting mauls is the vibration which is transferred through the handle. I prefer a hickory handle.

    1. That is exactly what popped into my mind.

    2. Yes, wood handles also contribute to accuracy believe it or not, as more weight is concentrated at the head.
This also makes them more efficient, as the transfer of energy from you to the object being worked on is more concentrated at the point of impact.

  2. not to mention the fact that if you get a fiberglass splinter from the handle you WILL immediately attend to it. a carpenter for 37 years and i swung glass hammers.

    1. Never comes loose is no good when the handle splinters. Protect from UV, freezing, heat.

    2. Bought a ground works 8# from TSC, lasted one year of moderate use. They told me to .... off. No way to put a wedge in with fiberglass.

  5. Granfors bruks are by far the better axes.

  6. At $289, the GranFord should split wood by itself. Nice axe tho. Biggskye

    1. It looks like a nice bit of gear. But there are high quality items available at a fraction of that price.

  7. Comparing a $30 dollar groundworks to an Estwing is ridiculous. A good quality fiberglass handle will be nigh on indestructible. I have been in fiberglas mfg for decades.
