  3. Howard Hughes was busy trying to figure out how to shave rivet heads off to reduce drag, and Ford builds something like this? There's a reason Ford ain't in the airplane business anymore.

  4. Hughes and Stout(the Trimotor's desinger) were working towards different goals.
    Since there are still Ford Trimotors flying, I think Ford and Stout met their goals.

  5. One used to fly from Port Clinton, Oh to Put-In-Bay island, delivering mail, groceries, and some of us ice-fisherman, when Erie would ice-over!
