And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Need to see some smoke coming out of that chimney.
As someone who heats with wood almost exclusively I will say that properly seasoned hardwood burnt with the correct damper settings will frequently burn almost entirely smoke free.
My Papaw was raised in a three room cabin in the Smoky Mountains. I believe he described it as a bit drafty (or “airish” in hillbilly). He credited his many siblings with whom he shared a bed for keeping him from freezing to death as a child.
