  2. Think I read somewhere that Maker's Mark sells their used barrels to Jack Daniels.

  3. Jack's barrels are owned by Glenmorangie. Made of American white oak and after first use of aging bourbon they then are shipped to Scotland and used to age scotch. I like the 10 year old Glenmorangie more than the 12 - 14 year olds. Or so I have been told a few times.

  4. My late uncle owned a sawmill that produced one thing: quarter-sawn, white oak barrel staves. Sold out to Brown Forman when he retired.

  6. What's really amazing about those barrels, is how much bourbon/whiskey is lost to the angel's share when the bourbon is being barrel aged. If it's a 500 gallon barrel, up to 200 gallons simply is lost to the heaven's. I know Woodford's barreling rooms smell wonderful.

  7. Up in the ADK of NYS, there is a town which is having a problem due to 'whiskey mold' from the 'angels share' from a large distillery barrel warehouse there. Apparently it is on everything.
