With all that glass the heating bill must be enormous

  1. If they're heating with wood, as the two stacks seem to indicate, they better have more than just a couple of cords worth.

  2. Intriguing design…assuming they have no close neighbors…being on display, albeit this was likely done for the photo, is not the best design option. FLW used large windows in the living spaces to bring the inside out and the outside in as a way to connect the two, which makes a small place (eg. Seth Peterson Cottage) feel much larger and live well. Sometimes more is too much.

  3. Triple pane glass can have a huge R rating, esspecially with a an "E" class membrane to disrupt radiant loss.

    1. I'd rather have fiberglass insulation.

  4. This much glass facing south can actually lower your heating bills.

  6. Who the hell wants their life on display at all hours of the day and night? I much prefer good solid walls, and the thicker and more solid the better. I'd live in an Ammo Bunker if I could find one nearby.

  7. Lots of snow on the ground, but a dusting on the roof. And part of the roof appears to be translucent paneling. Methinks heating cost is incidental.

  9. You REALLY don't want lots of glass walls if they aren't multiple layers, especially if you have winters. BT;DT. Do NOT recommend...
