Mechanical brilliance, and a wood prop to boot.

  1. Wood props are supposed to be parked vertically, so they don't droop and become unbalanced...

    Nice plane, though.

  2. Droop? I thought wood props are supposed to be parked horizontally, so if there's any moisture absorption, it's equal between the blades.

  3. Wood props are stopped in the horizontal for even moisture content. This is the recommendation of Stinson and of Culver. Those two I know, likely the other builders agree.

The Ryan 22 has long been a fovorite.

  4. Ok, searching around, I've found both arguments. I guess the answer is to just use a metal prop ;-)

  5. All the camlok fasteners in that lower cowl are indexed…nice touch! The forward plug wires need a spacer under the clamp on the intake valve housing. They’re chafing where they’re routed across it.

  6. That's a big expanse of chrome on the fuselage.
