Handy

  1. Have a couple of these. Seriously handy to have around when the power fails for a week at a whack and takes up less space than a comprable 2 burner. 1lb propane bottles are ubiquitous and easy to carry as well..

  2. I put this on my Amazon list for next month. Thanx for the tip.

  3. I have this exact stove. It works well and heats rapidly. While thinking about
the current situation and our fragile power system; I ordered two more

  4. I've had one of these since 1995 originally purchased in Japan. Great for frying up a skillet or 3 of fish so it doesn't have to smell up the kitchen.

  5. These work really well, I have several (in the VW bus, in the house). The butane works well & is my choice when I have it but I do buy the dual fuel model so I can use propane when I can't find butane canisters. The last time we used it (camping in the VW bus in WA state) I had to use the propane bottles after my can of butane ran out.
This is good thing to have around!

    1. Yes, but you'll need an adapter.

    2. I have a hose that will go from the big tank & hook up to the propane adapter on the stove.

  7. I purchased this exact unit in 2019 and have used it about a dozen times during power outages to heat water for my instant mud and for heating soups.

It is small, comes in a black hard plastic case (let cool down before re-casing it) and is very light. We keep ours in a lower cabinet in the kitchen.

This unit is designed to be used with the cans of butane fluid and I bought a dozen of them.

The butane cans slide right into the trough under the lid on the right side/top. Inside that trough is a short tube that allows you to connect 1lb propane bottles instead of butane. I have a dozen of the propanes on hand too.

Remember, this is FIRE and it is instant. And it will climb up the sides of the cooking vessel you are heating. It may melt plastic handles if not positioned properly.

Lastly, this unit has a piezo igniter so matches or lighter are not required, yet. lol

All in all I rate this very unit very high, say 9.5 or more out of 10. I can see no way to improve it. Get one now, try it out a couple times before you actually need it so you'll know how it works. It'll be the best $30 you ever spend.

  8. Yes, very handy.

However butane fuel doesn't work well at very low temps vs propane.

Be sure to release the fuel canister latch when transporting by car/truck. Extended vibration can cause a leak, ask me how I know.

  9. And now, the bad stuff.
A co-worker was canoe camping with his 12 y.o. daughter about 2 days paddle into a national park (Algonquin Park, Ontario). Making fries on this stove at supper, and it blew up, scalding(?) him badly enough he was off work for 3 mos.

I only got the office gossip version, but it happened after dark, so he had to wait for dawn and self-evac the same way he came in. I don't know how long before he reached emergency services.

Again, gossip version, so I'm guessing the oil puked on the almost-empty butane can and we had a BLEVE scenario.

Having the butane can that close to the hot bits has made me hesitate buying one ever since. Glad to see there's an external propane option.

    1. Anybody deep frying french fries on a camping trip deserves to be blowed up.
Maybe if they had placed "one more" warning label on it....

  10. Deep frying potatoes long after dark when you're a 2 day paddle in the wilderness and the stove blew up? You're going to blame that one on the stove?
I've used these stoves a good bit and really can't see how that would happen.
