And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Copperhead is what the herpetologists call a 'highland moccasin', whereas the cottonmouth is a 'lowland moccasin'. Cottonmouth juveniles have very similar markings to the copperheads, before they darken up and get mean.
Real plentiful here in southern Missouri. Seems like there's one or two in every woodpile or brush pile and they can get pretty good sized. Biggskye Biggs Biggs key
One just like that bit my Malinois, because he stepped on it, 4 months ago. Vet said that's the best bad snake to get bit by. Yay! Anti venom shot, over night at the vets and the next day he's fine. Middle western Tennessee, not far east of the Tennessee River. No I didn't kill it, I used a stick to flick it into the Colosseum holler. It was nothing personal, just a cluless 4 month old dumb ass. NOW, every time I come across a snake, I toss it into the yard in front of the porch. All the dogs give them a wide berth. Dumb ass, especially.
Species please and territory.

ReplyDeleteWhich includes Texas. I have a bunch of these around my place east of San Antonio a bit.

ReplyDeleteJust broomed a 3 footer off the screened in porch yesterday. Have no idea how it got in there. Scary. I don't kill em any more. They serve a purpose.
