And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I couldn't afford a high quality bandsaw, so I bought a Ryobi BS904 and set to work. A good new blade, a full set of adjustments according to Alex Snodgrass and better upper and lower blade guides made a big difference. A zero clearance insert improved things hugely. When I can afford it I'll treat it to a set of roller blade guides.
Overpriced, but a quality knockoff of the original Delta. If you watch local sales, you can find a good (old) Delta or Taiwan equivalent for lots less. Spend a few bucks on refurb. These are indestructible, just clean up and change bearings. Or -even better, and adequate for most woodworkers- find an older Sears 12". Admit it- you aren't, really, going to be doing resaw on 8" boards, nor do you need all the bells & whistles.
DO NOT buy this from amazon. Buy it directly from Grizzly. It's $895 right now and they're running a 5% off sale too. And don't forget the 6" riser block.

ReplyDeleteThanks Jannie
DeleteGrizzly tools are superior for the most part, their customer service is top notch.
ReplyDeleteGet as much throat clearance as you can if you ever want to do resawing.

ReplyDeleteI admit it, I admit it! The truth is out there.
DeleteWe have a Grizzly 14".
ReplyDeleteKarla bought it used before we met, so it's at least 25 years old.
It has been trouble-free.
I finally replaced the tires last year, and that's the only maintenance other than regular it has required.

I own that saw. It's no big deal. I'm getting rid of it in favor of an older Reliant with real external belt drive.
ReplyDeleteDo NOT try to resaw hardwoods with it. Do NOT "upgrade" it with the riser kit.
