Crater Lake Swim. That place, it's hard to even get to the water the sides are so steep.

  1. The water temperature in June is 68 degrees! Too cool for my bones.

    2. That's the surface temp.
A foot down, it's closer to 40°, and it drops off from there.
      And worse on cloudy days.

  2. The local Indians tell of a giant crawdad that can reach up and pluck you off the ridge path well above the water level. Never saw it myself...

  3. I swam there as a young man. Second coldest i've ever been in my life by the time i was done. I didn't stop shivering until i was nearly done with the hike back up to the rim. It was late August.

  4. The place IS gorgeous, though. Creepy to think how deep it is. (1949 feet. Just a bit under a half mile. Yikes.)
