  6. Since I don't know what I'm talking about, someone explain the value of a kayak over a canoe. I get the maneuverability angle unloaded, but why take on such cargo with an inherently unstable craft?

    1. Probably due to the kayak being unsinkable due to construction. Roll a canoe over, and you lose everything, pretty much, including the canoe itself if the water is more than walking depth. Dealing with a water current, and it's all gone. The kayak is probably considered a higher tech canoe at this point. Can't sink it, hard to damage, but is not as useful due to a more specialized interior/occupant design. Tradeoffs.
