    1. Yes. That is a nuclear submarine so they can make fresh water. It is more for the steam plant but also for potable water use.

    2. Our boat, SSN688 LA Class, had a 10,000 gallon per day still, which is a good amount of potable water. Even so, you'd get called out for taking a what we called Hollywood shower. You were supposed to soak yourself, shut off the water, lather up, and rinse off. Anything else was a Hollywood.

  2. Notice the lookout with the rifle. They don't know who/what they're swimming with.
And yes, it can make fresh water and oxygen.

  5. That’s a M-14 and is probably on shark watch

  6. Yep. One guy on shark watch. Or anything that thinks sailors would be tasty.

  7. Swim call at the AUTEC Range near the Bahamas

  8. Not sure I’d have high confidence the guy on shark watch could hit a fast moving shark or stop it with a 7.62 round. Always make sure someone is further away from the group than you are.

  9. I was in the water and looked back to see my buddy on shark watch with the m-14. It took him three times at the range to qualify, and he was a TM.

  10. I've done that a few times. The first time was 50 years ago in Exuma Sound, also known as "Tongue of the Ocean". The sea that day was so calm, it was almost like glass, and the water was so clear you could clearly see the turn of the hull 35 ft down.

  11. I've heard the grub is good on submarines. You wouldn't believe the slop they serve in civilian run chow halls.

  12. I'm guessing beans and hard boiled eggs are left off the menu in submarines ...

I'd never thought about where fresh water comes from on submarines. I figured it was stored in hull.
