And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
To any detractor's!!!!!....... without them... (the B-17's) you'd be speaking GERMAN right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PS....... Hitler is Dead.... along with Benidito .. and his girlfriend who when they hung them up by the heels after they were shot they at least tied her skirt around her knees so the flies would not have a heyday!! there were others ... Tojo got hanged .. he got dropped 7 feet 7 inches of rope to"Make sure" un like all the Germans.. who got "SHORT ROPED!!" by Sgt. Joe... Life in the Fast Lane ... Makes you lose your mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! skybill
I've flown in B 17s. No pressurized cabin - open machine gun ports and hatches and they said they had more frostbite injuries at 25,000 ft. than shrapnel wounds. At 40 below zero you could not remove a glove to clear a jammed gun or turn a radio knob because your hand hand would freeze to it. Even with sheepskin and leather flying suits with electric heating heating elements the crew members told me you still froze your butt off. Descending into England must have been wonderful.
My Dad's buddy Clem Fleschini flew B17s over Germany and the Pacific. He said when they flew over the islands the Japanese anti aircraft guns had white flags tied to them. they had given up. Read Truman's reply letter to the Japanese government. " You brought us to this point " ( quote )

The Eigth US Army Air Force lost more men KIA and MIA in the European bombing campaign than the USMC lost in the entire Pacific war.
