  2. I guess it's the equivalent of mid January in the northern hemisphere. High mountains and snow in midwinter go together.

    1. It's the middle of winter down there and as I recall those are really tall mountains (the Andes).
      Things are about how they are supposed to be....

  3. No first-hand knowledge of Chile but runoff from the Andes is the primary source of water for some coastal areas of western South America. Coastal areas of Peru are pretty much a desert with little if any access to water other than mountain runoff. Annual rainfall in Lima averages about 2mm spread over 6-days of rain.
