And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
A friend of my Father had one of those big Racers- All Wood, no Glass or Composite materials, Massively Expensive to Buy and Operate, a lot of your Crew are Hired Hands, Races were for Inane Prizes, Bragging Rights, and seldom enough Money to cover the Day's Expenses. Dad was one of his regular Crew (not Paid), I went along a few Times and stayed outof the Way (I was in middle school) and the way those guys Played It, it was a Good Thing that the Rules didn't allow Muzzle-Loading Cannon. Outright Ramming was prohibited, but Cutting Off, Drafting, and Swapping Paint like NASCAR was "Racing".
When I met my wife she had a small sailboat and oddly enough, she liked to sail. I always prefered power boats and made no attempt to change, nor did I try to change her. This picture is pretty close to what I would imagine everytime i thought of sailing.
No room for landlubbers there.
ReplyDeleteNothing like a J boat!
ReplyDeleteThat's racing. If I were making a passage, I'd have reefed the sails so as not immerse the lee side of the boat.

"ALL HANDS ON DECK!"
ReplyDeleteIt looks so relaxing, I can see why people like sailing.
ReplyDeleteHaving been in a few regattas, racing is not relaxing, but it is fun.
