And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
My Super-X boxes came in yellow boxes with red lettering in the early years. Wildcats and Federal Lightning (Blue box, yellow / white lightning graphic) was consumed by the metric ****ton in our rimfires. Dad was pretty frugal, being a Depression Baby (started working at age 10), delivering groceries in town on bicycle. Wage was 10 cents per week, the weekend getting a bonus nickel.
Anyway - RIP Dad. I hope I'm half the Dad to my kids that you were to me and my Brother.
$.50 a box when I first started buying ammo at the local liquor store before hitch hiking to the hills. Never had a problem getting picked up as a 13 year old with a Remington bolt action rifle. That was 1964, So. Cal.
The local hardware store would change the brand every few months but they were 50 cents a box or $4.35 a brick. I would go half with my cousin who was a year older. He had a tube fed semi-auto and I had a Ted Williams lever action single shot (Ithica M49). For some reason he went through more ammo than I did.
Longs Cashier: Sir, you can't buy bullets and alcohol at the same time. Me: What..??? Longs Cashier: Hahaha. Just kidding. That'll be $8.50 with the tax.
And Stingers and Yellow Jackets when we had a few extra dimes to spend.
