  1. Well except for the galvanized cap. I'm sure there's a way to make one out of wood, I guess, I don't work with wood.

  5. The black horizontal coat hook acts as a stop and the iron cap should be painted dark brown. Still a good conversation piece.

    Someone actually competent would have simply made a protruding hardwood stop (possible even full-length), eliminating that ghastly black iron piece, and made an all-wooden slide lock, requiring zero galvanized plumbing pieces.

    This is horrible and ugly, but it works. For some value of that word, providing aesthetics is judged by Stevie Wonder.
    It should in the Dictionary Of Bad Home Improvement.
    It makes you look twice because your mind is gobsmacked that someone did that.
    But I'm sure the builder is proud of it.

    Likely the wife is just happy it keeps the dogs in the yard.
