And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Gotta hand it to Claire and the boys, they were fighting planes that were much faster, could turn way inside the P-40 radius, but they went out and kicked ass. Not only short of everything they needed to fight and maintain their planes, they were threatened with all kinds of things by the gov. They went anyway. Racked up a pretty good kill ratio in the air, did some effective ground attacks as well, if I remember right. God rest their souls, they deserve it. Sharp Salute.
The P-40 is my favorite.
ReplyDeletemost manufactured, IIRC.

ReplyDeleteSharp Salute.
Fuckin' Men!
ReplyDeleteSuperstitious as I am, I'd think twice about the "Little Joe III" name
ReplyDeleteIt's a trainer, probably one of only two made P-40ES types, or the one-off TP-40K.
ReplyDeleteNote the rear cockpit.
No trainer, it's a P-40N with the late style canopy. 25th Fighter Squadron, 51st Fighter Group; Kunming, China, 1944.
