And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

There's a lot of small water ponds around here, but they get weedy quickly in the summer. I've been told this is the lure for these conditions.
I like them when I'm in heavy weeds and notice a tail flip at a Johnson or other spoon I'm using. Throw the frog back to the spot where you noticed the fish and just let it sit on top of of the fish. Twitch the rod a bit now and then to make the frog move. Might take a minute or two but in short order that bass is going to nail that frog. When the bass sucks the frog up it'ĺl go back down. You (and this is absolutely essential) have to count to three before you set the hook-if you don't the fish wont be there. Slow fishing and you wind up pulling a ton of weeds but they do catch fish.
What kind of fish are you fishing for, CW? I'm about as far from you as one can get and still be in the US, and I don't think I've ever seen a fish pictured on the blog that we have around here.
Bass. There's a pond behind me, and a guy at work has fished it extensively and says these are the real deal on that weedy water. Interestingly, the Icelandic Daughter was down there last summer and discovered a family of four river otters in the pond. Hopefully, they didn't clean out all the fish (it's my job now to see if they did).
anon is absolutely right about having the patience to let the fish run with lure.when fishing a frog lure for bass they seem like they want to run with it for a minute or so.
Use a Carolina rig with a floating Jelly Worm frog.
ReplyDeletethey hook more fishermen than fish
ReplyDeleteThey're brightly colored so's you'll be able to find them in the weeds---maybe.
ReplyDeleteThats the way to go: cast, let it sit, raise the rod tip, let it sit. OR,cast and run the hellout of it on the retrieve…..
