And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
The one that always sticks in my mind was of an instructor with his pointer standing in front of his class of students pointing at the blackboard with a drawing of a large slotted screw and screwdriver. The title of the cartoon is "School for the Mechanically Declined".
My favorite was a cartoon of a yard sign "Beware of Doug!", and a lurking Doug hiding in the bushes. We framed that and give it to my late friend Doug.
I find the one with the classroom and the instructor pointing to a picture of a cow, which is so labelled with a large arrow, and saying, 'Yes? A question, there in the back?' extremely moooving... There is nothing so simple that questions cannot be found by the inattentive. Mike in Canada

ReplyDeleteLarson releases five of the old ones each weekday and two each weekend day.
Try "Loose Parts". The writer seems to be channeling The Far Side in spirit.
ReplyDeleteI always liked the "trouble brewing" cartoons that Larson did, like the jump school right next door to a gator farm.
