And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Used to be an old single lane bridge across a river near me, had a traffic light at each end. A friend lived out that way; one day his house caught fire and the fire engines had to go the long way around as they couldn't make it across the bridge. House and garage burned to the ground.
Rebuilt as a pedestrian bridge on surviving piers after original bridge was destroyed in floods of 1964.
