And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
OK, serious question, guys. I've been thinking about a Jeep pickup truck lately, don't know why. They just look utilitarian and rugged and I'm thinking maybe Mad Max times might be coming. Is Jeep now owned by Fiat? And is Jeep still a good vehicle? I once had a Wrangler many years ago, and a Cherokee years before that, but I haven't heard much about the modern Jeeps. Any feedback would be instructive. Thanks.
There's a lot of baggage in that question. Your best bet is to find one in a parking lot somewhere and wait around for the owner to show up and ask their thoughts. Beware, Jeep people tend to go on and on about their Jeep and nobody will willingly tell you the truth, so you have to be cunning in your conversation prowess.
I was on my bike and stopped at a jeep dealer, I was curious about the price. The one I looked at (4 door pickup) was $70k... the salesman said it had a sunroof and was a hybrid. I go with Anonymous, find a used one.
Our rural mail carrier drives a Jeep, right side steering. She recently had it in the shop. Her mechanic said that Jeep stood for “Just Empty Every Pocket.” She said he wasn’t wrong!
Can't speak for anyone else. My first JGC was a 1995, straight-6. Loved it! In low 4 it would just about climb a tree if you wanted to. Put over 215K miles on it, ordinary maintenance costs. Gas mileage was low though. Let my wife talk me into trading it in on a 2005 JGC (the '95 was starting to look a bit ragged for her tastes). No 4-low on the model I picked. Much nicer ride and quieter than the '95. Again, maintenance costs seemed ordinary to me, mileage a bit low. This time, at 205K miles I decided to put some $$ into it and hang onto it. Glad I did. Put around $4K into it over a couple years and have driven it 6+ more years. Getting rough looking but I don't care. Don't drive that much anymore (up to just under 220K now).
Hauled TONS of scavenged firewood in both. Drove both in some serious snowstorms. No complaints.
Very nice. Jeep is okay too.

ReplyDeleteFind a 30 year old pick up not bogged down with computers and electronics.
DeleteAnonymous is correct.
DeleteModern Jeeps pretty much suck!
DeleteJeep has a lot of problems with quality and reliability, and so-so gas mileage.

DeleteMy mechanic says avoid jeeps (unless older) at all costs because that's what it will happen to you...costs.
DeleteJ = just
DeleteE = empty
E = every
P = pocket
Headlights ALWAYS on high is a requirement for Jeepers I guess.
