And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Once again - great photos in the "Friday Open Road". The photo of the float plane in the bay with the brown bear on shore was a nice reminder of "home" for me.
CW how can you continue to find better and better and better photos for this weekly post? It’s a highlight every week for me. Thank you for the research.
Two young actors killed themselves driving Spyders in the hills of Los Angeles in the '50s. Most people know about James Dean. I wonder how many people know about the other.
James Dean, 1931-1955, dead at 24. Tom Pittman, 1932-1958, dead at 26. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Pittman#Death https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0685964/bio
And I stand corrected. James Dean's crash was well north of L.A., near Paso Robles.
Thanks. I looked him up on IMDB. I'm familiar with him as he was in some of the old western TV shows we have watched. Gunsmoke, Wells Fargo, Have Gun Will Travel, etc. Didn't recognize the name but did remember his face. Looks like it took 3 weeks to find him and the crashed car. grisly
I echo the above comments... love your Friday Open Road stuff... you're fantastic at "curating" this kind of thing.. if that is the right use of that trendoid word.
I enjoy trying to figure out where they are as well.. anyone have a guess on the second one ? I'm thinking S. America ? maybe the southern parks in Chile ?
The first photo of the road has to be pretend. It would take longer just to drive the pilings for the bridge than to remove the debris. The again, sounds like a perfect government project.

ReplyDeleteLooks like a lot of Landies today. The two girls sailing out in the trapeze are awesome.
